Coordinated by Rotary Club Kigali Mont Jali, the event brought together members from Rotary and Rotaract clubs across the country in a meaningful moment of unity and collective remembrance.

Kwibuka, meaning “to remember” in Kinyarwanda, is more than an annual event; it is a national and personal commitment to preserve memory, honor lives lost, and ensure that future generations continue to uphold the values of humanity, peace, and reconciliation.

The gathering served as a space for members of the Rotary family to pause and reflect on one of the darkest chapters in Rwanda’s history while acknowledging the country’s remarkable journey of healing, rebuilding, and national transformation. Through moments of reflection, testimonies, and shared commitment, participants honored the memory of the victims and survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

As an organization built on service, fellowship, and peacebuilding, Rotary continues to emphasize the importance of fostering communities rooted in dignity, compassion, and understanding. The commemoration highlighted the responsibility carried by every individual and institution to protect truth, challenge division, and promote values that strengthen social cohesion.

Members reaffirmed Rotary’s dedication to creating lasting impact not only through service projects, but also through promoting dialogue, nurturing ethical leadership, and encouraging future generations to become ambassadors of peace.

The event also reflected the strength of collaboration within the Rotary network in Rwanda, demonstrating how service organizations can contribute meaningfully to remembrance efforts and nation-building.

As the commemoration concluded, participants left with a renewed sense of responsibility: to remember those who were lost, to stand with survivors, and to continue building a future defined by unity, respect, and lasting peace.

Kwibuka32 was not only a moment to remember the past it was a renewed commitment to shaping a future where truth, dignity, unity, and peace remain at the heart of our communities.

On 2 May 2026, the Rotary Rwanda Family gathered in a spirit of remembrance, reflection, and solidarity to commemorate Kwibuka32 the 32nd commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.
